Sunrise over Nobbys Beach

5:30 am at Nobbys. “We’re up around then anyway.” — Shannon and Rachael. It was surprisingly warm, such a great time of year.

Here’s the first photo that jumped out at me.

Mel & Justin – Rendezvous at Nobbys Beach

Nobbys Beach has to be the iconic Newcastle location, and it’s one of my favourite locations to photograph in.

Mel & Justin love the beach, with their wedding on the coast just a bit further south, so it seemed like a good idea to get some practice in. So after catching up on the wedding details (there’s a car being restored… better hurry up Justin), we went into the foreshore and spent some time running around. There was a bit of silliness and splashing (not that I provoked them or anything), but also some great moments that convey how much these guys love each other.

Carly and Brendan’s engagement session

With the crazy weather of late, it’s been a bit tricky to get out and take some photos.

But Carly and Brendan were prepared to brave it, but after a warming coffee at Baristaba (recommended!) it just meant we had the whole Honeysuckle foreshore area to ourselves, without another soul in sight.

With summer most definitely having arrived, and the day starting so early, the best time for a family portrait with kids is definitely first thing in the morning.

That’s how we found ourselves at 7:30 out at Newcastle Beach for this shoot. There was much chasing of seagulls, but eventually things calmed down and a few photos were taken. I liked the tasteful grafitti in the second picture too…

Sarah and Ben – family portrait

I may be biased, but I happen to think a good photo of your kids would make a great Father’s Day present. That’s what Sarah & Ben decided anyway, and they picked the first photo underneath as their favourite.

These photos are taken down by the lake at Valentine, a spot I think I’ll be using again.
